Nowadays with such well stocked supermarket shelves, it can be difficult to keep track of what food is in season – or this might even be a completely new concept for some. That’s where this page comes in, providing you with a simple breakdown of what is in season in month. The aim is to help you keep up-to-date each month, plan some fun, new, tasty recipes and maybe even try a new food.
There are a number of good reasons to eat with the seasons, including:
- To reduce the energy and the associated CO2 emissions needed to grow and transport the food we eat
- To support our local economy
- To avoid paying more for food that is in short supply
Seasonal food can also be:
- More nutritious
Check out what is in season each month below and aim to buy one or more foods when doing your weekly shop. The aim doesn’t need to be to make ALL foods you eat for that month foods that are in season. This is by no way realistic. It’s about small changes and habits, remember a little bit can go a long way.
